Running Strength is the perfect class to compliment your TGCR running sessions.
We focus on exercises that will improve performance, running economy and reduce the risk of injury and who doesn't want that?
Some of the direct benefits to running are; improved balance, reduced joint pain, more power (for those hills eeek) and generally we can help make you a little more robust.
Strength training also carries over to other aspects of your life, such as maintaining muscle mass and bone density and improving your muscle control and co-ordination, all of which start to decline as we get older.It's good for your skin, good for your heart and good for your pelvic floor!
Our current Running Strength programme is led by Adam, a qualified Personal Trainer and Run Group Leader for These Guys Can Run. The programme runs in 10 week blocks in Cramlington and costs just £35. So, if you want to be a better runner, slow down the aging process and exercise These Girls Can Run style in a supportive and fun environment then fill in our Contact Form or email Adam at theseguyscanrun@gmail.com!

"I am currently into my second round of Running Strength classes. I joined the group for a very simple reason – lack of discipline.
I am perfectly aware that it is important to develop core strength to enhance and assist running technique, and to reduce risk of injury, but actually doing it is the problem.
We start with some gentle warm up exercises. We do sit ups, bridges, leg raises and much more. Alternate weeks Adam brings all sorts of weights, like kettle bells, and we do repetitions to develop our upper body strength. He used to have a medicine ball for slams, great for getting out the stresses and frustrations of the day, but someone broke it (!) .We also do some short bursts of very high intensity activity;
We finish with calming cool down yoga poses, and when you resurface from the chill out zone, you think, are we finished already? The hour goes so quickly.
After the first couple of weeks, I was just pleased to be able to do some of the exercises; I still can’t manage all of them. However, Adam adapts each exercise for each person, so we can do our best. I have found that I am better now at some I struggled with in the early days. Adam has corrected my posture and technique to get better results. My balance is improving each week. I am also getting better at planks (hate planks!).
I’m not too bothered about how fast I run, however, I have noticed I am getting a tiny bit faster. Maybe it’s my new shoes, maybe it’s the class.
The great TGCR spirit of friendship, support, encouragement and a teeny bit of competition is obvious in class. We get red in the face, hot, sweaty, very dishevelled and into some very weird shapes. We all look the same, so there’s no need to feel self conscious. This is a safe place to be a mess, and make a complete twit of yourself, I love it!"
