"Hi I'm Jaime Maccoy and I'm so excited to be the Run Group Leader for the These Girls Can Run Wallsend. I always wanted to be a runner but just couldn't get started. I even did the Great North Run in 2005 and 2009 but didn't train properly for them as believed I couldn't run and needless to say I didn't enjoy the experience. It wasn't until just over two years ago that I decided to enter the Great North Run for the third time and run for a charity that was important to me and my family. I was determined to do better this time for them as well as myself. I barely got to the end of the street and came home in tears as again I believed I couldn't run but this time I kept going. Before I knew it I was able to keep running for longer and the first time I ran a mile without stopping was such an achievement! I'm doing the Great North Run for the 5th time this year and have now completed lots of 5K and 10K events. I do have a liking for a bit of race bling! My 4 year old son has also developed a love of running. He has completed a number of fun runs and has quite a medal collection. I love the fact that he sees his mummy as a runner and he's my biggest supporter.
"TGCR was the best thing about 2015 for me. Had never ran properly before and joined the Wallsend branch when it started in September and have never looked back since. My health has greatly improved, I've made some fab new friends, dropped 2 dress sizes and it really helped me focus on something positive during a period of anxiety. I cannot recommend joining enough. It's amazing how quickly you can improve with the support of all these fantastic ladies!" - Sarah
