"I joined the group on Facebook long before I got the courage to go to a session. I wasn't a runner and started in July with a mixture of walking and jogging and can now run 5km without stopping. OUR MAIN GROUP SESSIONS
If you're reading this because you're thinking of coming along to your first session then let me just say we understand how you might be feeling right now. I've been there and lots of our ladies have too. That's why when you come along to any of our sessions you will always receive a warm welcome from ladies who understand exactly how you may be feeling. So what exactly happens at one of our sessions?
1. On arrival you will be met by the Run Group Leader who will introduce you to the other ladies and will talk to you about your goals, get a brief medical history and some personal details and will answer any questions you may have.
2.Our group sessions usually begin with a chat about the route and our Run Group Leaders will talk everyone through the different options available depending on the distance you wish to complete. Our sessions are planned so there is something for everyone and our Group Leaders will be happy to chat these through with you
3.We then begin the session with a fun, gentle warm up which will ensure you are ready for the session ahead. Again, with the warm up do what you can and take it at your own pace. The main session is usually a run or sometimes we do like to mix it up a bit with hill sessions, running games or a chat and practice of good running technique. Don't worry though these will always be planned so they are suitable for all fitness levels and you will be able to enjoy it at your own pace and working within your own limits.
In summary, our sessions are suitable for EVERYONE and all we ask is that you take the session at your own pace. It is a fact of life that everyone runs/walks at different paces so we cater for that in our sessions. We always ask our faster runners to loop back or complete extra loops and that way they can cover the distance at a pace which is good for them and it also ensures that we can work together and support each other as a group.
Please don't worry about being left behind or holding anyone back. We run as a group and our Run Group Leaders run at the back to ensure no one gets left behind.

10 WEEK BEGINNERS COURSES:
From time to time our groups run 10 week beginners courses which are designed to take you from 0 to 5km in 10 weeks. The course involves structured weekly sessions with handouts and homework to help you on your journey. On completion of the course you will be given a certificate recognising your achievement and you will have all the tools to ensure you can continue your running journey.
The 10 week course costs just £30.00. Please contact your local Run Group Leader for details of forthcoming courses.
One to one bookable sessions are also available on request at a cost of £20.00 per hour.

I have enjoyed running on my own for a year or so now but didn't think I could go very far. When you run alone it is so easy to turn round and come back when you start to get tired. I usually did around 2 miles. The worry about running with others is everyone is frightened about being the slowest or holding others back. I saw Claire's group in Darlington on Facebook and decided to go along as she convinced me being a beginner was no problem. How right she was! I was impressed how she looked after those who really were running for the first time whilst encouraging those who could do that little bit more. I am delighted I have done two 5k runs this week - thanks to Claire that is. So pleased I have found this group. On my way to being healthier, fitter and have a few more friends too! - Joanne
